Eprinomectin is an antiparasitic substance used for the treatment and control of endo- and ectoparasites in animals. It is particularly effective for cattle, sheep, and goats but is also used in other animal species.

Essential insights

Binding to glutamate-gated chloride channels: Eprinomectin works by binding to glutamate-gated chloride channels in the nervous system and muscles of parasites. This increases chloride ion permeability, paralyzing and killing the parasites.
Disruption of nerve and muscle activity: By targeting the nervous system, eprinomectin prevents parasites from maintaining normal muscle and nerve function, leading to their death.
Host safety: Eprinomectin is designed to be safe for the host animal, as it does not cross the blood-brain barrier in significant amounts.
